Research has shown that students enrolled in the Los Angeles Archdiocese Transitional Kindergarten Programs are an average of six months ahead of their peers when entering Kindergarten.
The Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two year program to prepare students for success spiritually, academically, and socially. Students will be engaged in developmentally appropriate activities focused on socio-emotional skills, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, religion, physical education, music, and art. These concepts will be encompassed through cross-curricular, integrated units. These units will utilize a variety of resources such as informational texts, hands-on activities, and technology. Students will matriculate to Kindergarten from the Transitional Kindergarten the following September.
At Sacred Heart School, the Transitional Kindergarten will focus on the development of the whole child. Standards, as set forth by the Los Angeles Archdiocese, will be achieved through developmental activities that particularly focus on social developmental activities and nurturing the creativity within each child. We make it a priority to integrate our Catholic values and School-Wide learning Expectations (SLEs). The purpose is to prepare students to transition to Kindergarten smoothly possessing the skills and social awareness to be ready for the Standards for the 2nd year program in Kindergarten.
